Northern Nib
Creative Writing & Art
Welcome to my website! My name is Robert E. Wilson and I'm a writer from County Antrim in the Irish province of Ulster. I specialise mainly in humorous poetry and have published six books of 'barmy ballads' in recent years, as well as a Christmas-themed book of poetry based around the central players in the Nativity (November 2019). The books are suitable for young and old and come with illustrations by two very gifted artists, my daughter Aisling Wilson and Kathryn Bannister.
For several years, I've been an active member of a writing group led by the exceptional local author and poet, Lynda Tavakoli. Our first published book, 'Linen Poetry and Prose Anthology' was launched in the Irish Linen Centre, Lisburn, in June 2014 and is available on Kindle. You can watch my poem 'Millie' performed (in costume and character) by my fellow writer Geraldine Treacy on YouTube (Google: 'YouTube Millie - Irish Linen Centre'), whilst another of our writers, Rose McGrory, reads her story 'One Hundred Days'. Since then, we have produced a second anthology, 'Beyond Borders'.
As well as taking part in readings with my writing group. I have participated in the 'Bard of Armagh' Festival of Humorous Verse and Hillsborough Literary Festival, Co. Down and was a finalist in the 2016 Connemara Mussel Festival Poetry Competition in Tullycross, County Galway, judged by the esteemed Irish poet, Eamon Grennan.
Click on 'Books' in the menu for a brief description of each collection of ballads; these are available on Amazon.
I hope you'll enjoy reading some samples of my writing (which you'll find on the menu) and will re-visit the site for news of new publications and events. You also can follow me on Twitter @WilsonNib or read further examples of my work on a website called Poetry Zoo. You can also find out a bit more about my writing by clicking on the 'Interview' page, above.
